What can you do with the Crystals you get from using Solvent on items?

I don't know about a Fire Egg (or anything that looks like it) as a pet/summon. However, you can summon Salamanders at lvl 48 using the Summon spell as a mage.

How does this work? Do you need to stand in a Safety Zone for x amount of hours to get 200% exp? Does an icon appear showing you how much bonus exp you will receive?
