    Spell Element and Damage

This is more of an open question, but it doesn't really belong in tech support.

Many of the spells in the database are assigned elements, but how does that translate to damage? Is the element only considered in PvE, where mobs are weak to certain elements (similar to how it's calculated for elemental enchant scrolls)? Meaning a spell's element will give it increased damage on mobs weak to the element, but in PvP, elemental resistances do not impact the damage from these spells?

I ask because Elemental Falldown has zero impact on spell damage (in either PvE or PvP). An Earth Elf casting EFD on a mob will not increase Eruption damage, for instance. It will not increase elemental enchant damage. It will, however, increase Thebes Proc damage significantly. What is the difference in the code that makes EFD affect Thebes Proc but not spells? Shouldn't it affect both? Is this working as intended?

Elemental Falldown has a significant impact on damage in PVP. The element of the attacking spell is lowered/increased based on the targets elemental resist and the element of the magic.

Thank you, Charles. It's tough to test PvP damage w/o the -dmg tool, but in PvE it appears to have no impact (again, with the exception of Thebes Proc for some reason). Testing as Water w/EFD on target, CoC dmg range appears unchanged.

I have not tested in recently (past couple months) but ive been able to achieve 500+ damage crits with thunder god sword with ele falldown. From the limited testing ive done it seems to function properly.. based on prior testing.. nothing recently.  Keep in mind that in order to gain extra damage ele falldown needs to lower thier resists below 100..  I think some mobs have over 100?

Yeah, I've had success with a couple of procs, but never with straight up spell damage. Even when it comes to procs, falldown doesn't appear to effect all of them. For example, Earth EFD in combination with Maphr's Ret proc, no change.

    Re: Spell Element and Damage

I am not sure how correct it is, but monsters do not have elemental resist in PVE.

PVE -> mobs only have weaknesses in l1j-en codebase.. so elemental falldown doesnt do anything for spells..

that said, weapon procs are (incorrectly?) coded to increase damage if the parget has elemental falldown .. and to consider elemental damage... which is strange, I know. Not my code.

    Thanks,

Interesting. But we're certain that players are taking additional damage from elemental spells when the appropriate falldown is active? Thank you, Charles.

It's very revealing information that should not be displayed for PVP.... it would impact PVP.
