PvP Level-based Guard
I don't remember where else I've seen this, possibly LinDC or Ret, but there was a setting that basically checked the diff in level between two players engaging in PvP and if the diff was less than than X (as in: if (attacker_level - target_level > X)) then PvP hit chance was set to 0 from both parties. I'd probably also add a check so that it only applies if one of the parties is below level 52 or 55, so that we can still have level 55 players hitting level 75 players and vice versa.
This would likely help with the issue of newbies getting RPK'd and whatnot. While we all love PvP and it's not that hard to hide on a private server, some people really do get discouraged if early on they get griefed in any way. It would also help ameliorate a bit of the griefing that can occur in timed dungeons. It wouldn't be difficult to notify the players using an unused graphical effect (there are many) and/or overhead text. There's also the option of adding a simple symbol/phrase (e.g. "[No PvP]") to the end of the target's title in the broadcast packets for only the attacker to see. -

I like it. You'll see after a week or two of the server being live, new players will get one shot before they even hit 50. It inflates any KDA of the troll and pushes new players away. Maybe 20 level difference, 10 seems too low.

Exploitable. Because you can use low level chars to harass with immunity.
But, an easy idea to implement is as follows:
You kill someone 10/7 levels below you and this person is not pink. You lose KD ratio instead of winning it.
Simple and effective.
If both parties are pink, no problemo amigo.

Did you not read the part where I said NEITHER character can hit the other? And to guard against exactly the exploit of a lower character harassing a higher character? Please read the first post again. I explicitly say that if both characters engaging in PvP are over 52 or 55 they should be fair game to each other.

Still exploitable. I just imagined 2 scenarios. By the way, I said "exploitable"... I didnt say I dislike the idea. I do like the idea of stop bullying... It makes new comers go away. It stagnates a server. It feeds the trolls.
I do like the idea as abstract. But as you put it, it is exploitable.
The KD ratio, on the other hand, its not a protection, but if you get -10 KD for killing a newbie. And you care about PvP ranks. You will think it twice. Dont you?

NAH this is dumb as shit. Random PKing makes the game fun. Did NC ever stop RPKing on live? No. It’s not hard to hunt elsewhere and get stronger to fight back.

This is completely exploitable for sure... If you know the guys are 60-70+ and you re-roll a level 45-50 toon you can freely camp their area and steal loot/exp/troll... they wont be able to hit you... If you could add like a % damage reduction that would be nice... and stun guard to prevent stun lock greif...
So situation 1: I see bananas BP (who I normally have no trouble with) they decide today they wanna hit me. I'm around their level they attack me at willl. I log off my main, log into a level 48 stone turning DE and just stand there trolling them, i can hit their mobs to steal exp, I can walk between them and targets I can shit talk and they cant fight me even though I'm right there.
Situation 2: I'm on my level 48 hunting for real, they jump me and they're 10+ levels on me I take a reduced 40% damage. This will let me decide if I want to venz, rtele, or try and fight. If it's a melee doing 40% less to me and I'm level 50/55 and he's 65-74. 40% would bring me to a decent fighting term. If there' 4 of them I saved 40% of the incoming damage and was able to escape. If he cant stun me cause I'm 10+ levels that's also questionable because I could make a bp with 5 people level 55 with 100+ mr and fuck with their mages, and without stun they probably wouldn't kill me but I'd have to leave for pots because I still take damage.
However completely stopping them from hitting you leads to people who actually fight them, trolling them without penalty.-Yoshi
