TL;DR -> Clean up the personal attacks or get off the server, don't cry or report anything to the GM if you are instigating or face an equal ban and stop preventing forward momentum of content updates with nonsense like "people keep messaging me thinking the enemy is me".
It's been almost 6 months since we last posted about the toxicity level of the server. We feel like we've reached another point where it's again worth making a statement about what is going on in this area. First, it's important to note that updates, and content have been seriously lacking to what we can deliver because we are constantly fielding complaints or dealing with in-game issues of harassment or toxicity. We are all adults here, and some of us need to learn to exclude and not partake in the toxicity. Some players are bringing it on themselves, then crying wolf when they are targeted back. We've spent the last 3 days sorting through issues, viewing the chat log, pledge names and it's completely disturbing, not to mention a complete waste of our time. We had intended an Easter Event, but instead spent our time working on in game chat issues, or issues of game play.
It was never our goal to police chat, and we never thought we had would need to (see rules here). Our discretion was to try and let adults work things out themselves, but like our own children we need to step in scold misbehaving players for being nonsensical.
Still following? Time for the important part:
We banned a player on Sunday Evening for toxicity. In what we thought was a clear cut example of someone taking things too far. It was brought to our attention some of the nonsense this player was also dealing with. He has been the target of malicious intent just as much as he has been dishing it out in retaliation. Example: "Go your dead mother", "I’m going to your mom". This went on to further extremes such as creating alts to target players, just as he was being accused of: "CalvinsMom", "CalvinFucked", "HisMom".
Going through the chat logs, this nonsense has persisted for months, as far back as the beginning of the server where people were posting pictures of his mother in an attempt to dox him on Discord. So, tell me, do we ban him and allow others to perpetrate personal attacks? No. By the time we were done wasting our time policing in game nonsense (2-3 days) that was originally reported by others, it was determined that approx. 50 accounts would need similar bans.
Here is what we are going to do. A complete reset and hard-line on any personal attacks. We don't have time for this... but the toxicity and harassment can't persist on our server. We've been trying to develop and leave adults to be adults... but that is not working. We are unbanning the player, after a small vacation with an understanding that ALL PLAYERS will respect each other and keep personal harassment out of the game.
To be clear! We are not banning trash talk, only personal attacks.
If you are being a toxic player, you have 24 hours to clear up pledge names, character names, titles or any innuendo of harassment from their accounts or be banned for one week, and if there is a second offense, anything up to and including a permanent ban. We just want to develop code, fix bugs and create content... however, doing so while babysitting has become impossible. We will start imposing global bans even for questionable minor infractions.
To further clarify this post, players continously complaining about other players, and themselves are engaging in trolling, trash talking or griefing of players to instigate toxicity will be face the same ban for crying wolf. We are NOT banning trash talk. We are taking a stance on personal attacks but we've had enough of policing adults.. and just want to develop content.
Lets keep the reporting to serious violations, and learn to accept that there is a place for some trash talk in Lineage.
Think before you report, and think before you act. We are not here to police in game chat, but if we have to you better hope that you are innocent of ANY actions going forward.
